The use of Anabolic-Androgenic Steroids during long periods of time, at doses supra-fisiológicas leads to an inhibition of testicular function, with decreased spermatogenesis and testosterone. To restore the normality of the hypothalamic-pituitary with return to normal levels of testosterone and sperm, the use of gonadotropins human done is perhaps the best solution sometimes in conjunction with the clomiphene[1]. This use causes however a marked effect of oxidative stress with consequent apoptosis of leydig cells in the testes, What in some individuals may prove counterproductive, being so paradoxical effects.
Recent studies prove that the inclusion of N-acetylcysteine in two weekly doses during the use of gonadotropins, reduce the effects of oxidative stress and ultimately enhance the hormonal effect. It seems that this synergistic positive activity is due to the fact that this amino acid derivative, be forerunner of the tripeptide glutathione in particular at the level of tissues gonads.
[1] Anti-estrogénic substance, It also has a stimulating effect of male and female gonads, through a direct stimulation of the pituitary.
